Academic Life at Southeast
Southeast students have a reputation for success. Our graduates attend local public and private high schools, and many have gone on to high achievement in high school academic honors programs, drama programs, and sports programs. It is not uncommon, for example, for a sophomore in high school to return to Southeast and thank his/her 5th grade teacher for skills and habits instilled by Southeast.
Southeast Academic Goals and Objectives:
- Knowledge
To teach the knowledge and skills required for future study and/or occupational excellence.
- Patriotism
To teach our American heritage and current problems facing the country and the world.
- Community
To teach students their civic responsibilities.
- Creativity
To develop creative skills.
- Physical Well-Being
To teach wholesome recreation.
- Cultural Appreciation
To develop appreciation for fine arts.
Additionally, our students and their parents recount how they impress their high school teachers with their knowledge gained at Southeast! We know that our shared success is the result of team effort--parents, students, and teachers working together.
An Atmosphere of Praise
With such high standards we know that students will get their fair share of correction. At the same time, Southeast teachers value the liberal use of praise, and we have sought to give "2 praises to 1 correction" to every student. In fact, we "catch" students doing things right, and give them the Salt and Light Award. We think praising students is one of the most important features of a positive learning atmosphere.
Program Distinctives
Southeast provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers a variety of learning experiences including: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Bible, Fine Arts, Technology, Spanish, and Physical Education. We believe in a variety of experiences to enhance the academic experience for each student.
Southeast believes in close home/school communication, and employing teaching methods and textbooks that facilitate parent/teacher teamwork.
