Social Life at Southeast

Southeast is more than a school, it is a community of Christ followers raising their children to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Our school life extends beyond the school day, and indeed, many families choose Southeast because they want their child to have a peer group with strong values.

Social life at Southeast includes:
  • A school yearbook put together by parents and students
  • Back to school picnic for new families to meet and mingle
  • Southeast PTO sponsored family fun nights, such as roller skating or swimming
  • Music and Drama programs at Christmas and Easter
  • Class parties for Discovery Day, Christmas, Valentine's and the end of school
  • Middle School Retreat at Camp Timberline, 4th & 5th grade retreat at Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je, and even 2nd & 3rd grade retreat at Castlewood State Park begin our year with a spiritual foundation
  • All school gymnastics program

Our school has a "village" atmosphere, especially at the end of the day during pick up time, when moms are chatting and students are making weekend plans with each other. Families also are invited to attend our weekly chapel service and special presentations such as our gymnastics program.

Special School Assemblies
We know that kids can learn from a variety of teachers, community experts, even animals! Each year Southeast seeks to schedule fun school assemblies that provide a life lesson. We've enjoyed hearing a talk from former NASA scientist, watched birds of prey swoop around our school, and learned how to give instructions to a horse!

In 2003 we enjoyed a special visit from a real cowboy, Travis Loewen, who runs the "Cowboy Chapel" in Branson, Missouri. Later in 2004, we enjoyed a talk from Dr. Anthony Abbott, former NASA specialist, speak about "Exercise in Space" and how space exploration discovered evidence of a young earth.
